Cancún currency

As the official currency in Cancun, the Mexican peso is often accepted. American dollars are also widely used here. Some banks are open on weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm, but many exchange houses are open later.

Spoken Language

The first language in Cancun is Spanish, with many Mexicans working in the tourism industry speaking English. Many locals will speak Mayan as their first language and Spanish as their second since it was the next-most dominant language to Spanish.

The average tip for service is 10-15% or one to two dollars per suitcase. Be sure to check your bill, as tips may already be included.

Electricity in Cancun

The standard Cancun electricity supply is 110 volts. Hotels usually offer voltage converters for 220-volt devices. Many plugs do not accept polarized or three-pronged devices, so it's advised that you bring your adapter with you. You can buy these adapters in the hotel shop
